Surfers Paradise is Queensland’s entertainment headquarters. It’s Queensland’s only late night shopping precinct seven days, year round. Action packed, exclusive and vibrant - welcome to Surfers Paradise.

Surfers Paradise is the heart of the Gold Coast, where the world comes to play.

  • Two of the many famous aspects of Surfers Paradise - the Gate and the Meter Maids.

Our weather is warm to mild, year round. Most visitors enjoy the informal, relaxed atmosphere in Surfers Paradise, wearing casual attire on the beach and amongst the shops. Your swimming costume is essential!

The Beaches

The Gold Coast has arguably the best beaches in Australia. Long sunny fine days combine with our 42 kilometres of unpolluted beautiful beaches to provide tourists with a fabulous experience. Our beaches are patrolled by Surf Life Saving Queensland and individual surf clubs. 17 beaches, including Surfers Paradise, are patrolled on a year round basis, and between September and May a further 29 beaches are patrolled by volunteer Surf Lifesavers.

If you would like to see a surf club in action and especially the 'nippers', head down to Surfers Paradise beach early on Sunday mornings - future 'ironmen and women' in training!

Beware of the dangers, such as a rip which is a strong current running out to sea. It can easily take swimmers from shallow water to several hundred metres offshore. By swimming between the flags, you can avoid rips.

Experience Cavill Avenue

Cavill Avenue, and Cavill Mall represent the heart of the Gold Coast. The street is lined with shops, nightclubs, bars, and fast food outlets, and there's lots of surf art and regular live music performances. The arcades and streets nearby are the real heart of Surfers Paradise, with everything from Asian food to surfboard shops, tattoo parlours, T-Shirt emporiums and nightclub doors.

As if Cavill Mall and Chevron Renaissance Centre in Surfers Paradise isn't enough, make sure to explore what's on offer at Pacific Fair in Broadbeach, the Marina Mirage, Sanctuary Cove or Australia Fair in Southport.

Beachfront markets are held every Friday night along the Esplanade in Surfers Paradise. You can pick up all sorts of arts and crafts, food, jewellery and all the kind of stuff you'd expect to find. They are on every Wednesday and Friday night from 5.30pm to 10pm.

Dining

Surfers Paradise alone offers more than 150 dining options. There are 128 licenced restaurants ranging from 5 star international dining to casual options.

For top of the range dining - try out the Absynthe at Q1 or the Waves Buffet Restaurant at the Watermark Hotel (recently voted by locals as the best seafood buffet on the Gold Coast). Local favourites include the Alfresco Pizzeria on the Gold Coast Highway and Nicolini's restaurant in Surfers Paradise Boulevard. Surf Life saving Clubs welcome families and groups whilst boasting the best views on the Gold Coast.

Q1 Residential Tower

Q1 - the world's tallest residential tower is the most striking urban designed building ever to appear on the Gold Coast skyline. It has magnificent beach location with views from the surf to the hinterland and beyond.

Q1 has 526 apartments over 80 levels. It is 322.5 m high, and covers at total of 12,480 sqm, of which 9,000 sqm of landscaped area. The 360 degree views from Level 77 and 78 are a highlight of any visit to the Observation Deck. It holds 400 people and is open daily from 10 am till late.

Meter Maids

Our Meter Maids have a fascinating history going back over 40 years. This tourist haven is the only place in the world, where uniformed girls, for their personality and charm, feed the parking meters to save visiting motorist from parking fines.

Today’s Maids are more than just meter feeders - The Meter Maids in 2006 are dedicated promotional tools, talented entertainers, friendly ambassadors and indeed often charity workers!
